I can’t count the number of susu boxes (piggy bank) I bought when I was a young boy growing up. It got to a time that I was so close to our ‘neighbourhood carpenter’ because I destroyed a box every week or so. I would save for things like a ‘disco watch’, a fan fair or party coming up and other silly things. My mother was proud and not proud of me at the same time. She was proud because I was saving to buy and do my own stuff, easing the pressure on her, and she wasn’t proud because I was saving for a short time. I think the longest I saved was for 3 weeks, and I can’t count the number of times she encouraged me to save for longer periods.
Savings was a big thing in my family, my grandmother was a big saver even though she wasn’t earning a salary at the time I was born. She saved part of the money that her children sent her every month so she always had money on her and in the bank. However, she always complained about the interests on her money and all kinds of things. I was too young to understand those terms then.
I’m a man now and have a family; I have a wife and a six-month old baby. I have promised to give my child the best of everything in the world and never make my family lack. To be able to achieve these, I need a solid savings plan that will give me the best of my cash. I have tried many banks and financial institutions and the packages that they offered didn’t work for me. Then a good friend of mine told me about a product Petra Trust recently launched. I wasn’t ready to listen at first because I thought it was just another financial institution. But there has been a pressing need to find a good financial institution to save with so I visited their website after paying attention to this friend.
Savings Booster is the right product that I have been looking for since I hit puberty and I am sure you realize the joy in my tweets about this product (look for my tweets with #WeAreEvolving). You can skip the rest of this post and just go to http://achievemore.petratrust.com/ and spend a little bit of time there. It’s one of the best interactive websites that I have come across and the user experience is second to none. On the website, I was able to start an experience on how to boost my savings with just a little help from my taxes. After completing just two boxes with a little info, I was told how much I pay for tax every month and what Savings Booster would do for me with some of this money that goes to taxes.
Basically, Savings Booster helps you boost your savings with some help from your taxes. Explaining this into details will be work for me because the website has done a very great job of explaining this in like two simple steps. I kept on entering figures in the box just to see how much money I will be saving from my taxes. This product from Petra Trust is one of a kind and will go a long way to help people like me, and other people who really need to save more, and I know my mother and grandmother will be happy where ever they are because I have now cultivated that habit to save and save for long periods. It’s always the best! Visit http://achievemore.petratrust.com/ and go through this experience and tell friends and family because ‘time no dey!’ #WeAreEvolving and we need more people to do the same.
My days have been amazing, my mood has been awesome and the people I am with, are like family. Fran and Jules are so amazing. I wouldn’t even call them host, they are more like a family and I hope they come to Ghana sooner than later. My last time here was February and it was very cold. Couldn’t do much then because there was snow on the streets and ice cubes on the pavements. I slipped a couple of times but the ‘kubolor’ in me kept me going.
I changed my flight back in February, I had to get to Ghana earlier because the weather was mean. I am going back to Ghana earlier this time too, not because of the weather. I am having the best moments of my life right now and I wont trade this for anything…well, maybe for my son.
I am leaving earlier because of my son. I had a son on the 16th of August, 2015. I prayed for him to land on the 11th of August, which is my birthday but…heaven knows. A little bit of me breaks when my wife sends me photos of him. Maybe she knows, so she keeps sending them. The photos do come daily, that means I break down daily. I was told this would happen if I left him, didn’t listen.
Having a son has changed my life, it has brought out emotions which I thought were never there. A couple of weeks back, I cried as I hummed a lullaby to put him to sleep. I look at him and wonder which path he is going to take. Will he allow me, or his mother to direct him, or he is going to be stubborn like his father when he was a teenager? Will he stammer like his father or speak like his mother? Will I mete out the same punishment like my mother and grandmother did to me? How is fatherhood going to be like for me especially since I didn’t have a father?
There are so many questions that keep on coming and most of them I don’t have answers to. What I can tell you is, fatherhood has been amazing and I cant wait for you to experience what I am feeling right now. See my previous post for a spoken word piece dedicated to my son.
The website is now functional, this was just a test post. Lol! From now onwards, I am going to blog like I used to.
Here is the video to my Father Figure spoken word piece. Enjoy and share
A good friend of mine (GhaliLeo) who is a producer, film-maker, rapper, poet etc put out a new video earlier on today. I think it is more of spoken word than rap and his lines are so deep and precise.
Thought it would be just right to share this work with you guys.
Enjoy and check out my website www.mutombodapoet.com. Will be posting there more frequently.
This is going to be my last post on mutombodapoet.wordpress.com. www.mutombodapoet.com is coming very soon. Is there a reason not to be excited?
I came across a youtube page that got me very nostalgic and you know how kind I am so I have decided to share this page I speak of. You are wondering why it got me nostalgic, right? Nah, it’s not because of that. This page has some of the great TV programs and movies that I loved in the 90s and late 80s. If you were born in that era, I am sure you did love them too.
Those were the #MadeOfBlack days, those were moments when we stayed glued to our tv sets at a specific time. Most of the shows on GBC TV depicted our lives and took a step to educate, but now… Talk about Obra, TV Theatre, By The Fireside, Thursday Theatre, Agoroo ooo, Talking Point, Adult Education in all the local languages etc. Remember?
Anyway this youtube page has some great movies and shows that you should all check out. Remember this:
Here is one of my favourites as well. Do share, like I did. So #MadeOfBlack
I wish my instagram was connected to this blog so you could also see some of my pictures. For the past 2 months or so, I have been very active on instagram and I am trying to find out what triggered it. For months, I was just posting once in a while and at a point, I decided to even close that account.
Oh wait, I remember, I read a post on Mobile Photography and I was exposed to the amazing shots people were taking with their smartphones. I never imagined! One of the major problems I had with my DSLR was its size. DSLRs always get attention because of its size, it hinders you from taking shots. You raise that piece of gadget and all eyes focus on you. Not good!
Since I started using my phone, I have been at ease, I don’t get attention when snapping with a phone and it fits in my pocket perfectly, unlike the DSLR.
I am having fun with my photos now, I am basically sharing images from my space and instagram has been a very great platform for sharing my pictures.
That #MadeOfBlack hashtag has made me realize the amazing things people are doing with whatever talent of skill that they have. I was following the hashtag on social media one day and I was overwhelmed. So inspiring! Just do what you have to do and do it well. Even though I have had that ‘vim’ for spoken word from the past, #MadeOfBlack has given me some oomph to up my game.
Anyway, below are some of my photos I have on Instagram, and go to @fotombo to see more. And since we are talking pictures go to www.madeofblack.com and upload your selfie which could be featured on MTV on the 23rd of October, 2014.
So my sweet sister was featured on www.onobello.com. Feast your eyes a little bit and see me in chambers for more!
Lost in thought and the entire world, the sun is cast upon her face. Shadows dance around her eyes sleep is far from her cos she knows no peace. But how could she? Beaten by a horrendous lover day and night bruises all over her body but she hides them with beautiful smocks. But today is the day she makes up her mind. Alas she must go from him, she must run AWAY. The gorgeous model Deborah Vanessa was captured by
Nigerian based photographer Paul Ukonu in this amazing editorial on the streets of Ghana. She was styled by Ijeoma Mang in different colourful kimonos and brown gladiator sandals as she posed in a 1974 Vintage Mercedes Benz. She had her face beautifully made up with dark smokey eyes and nude lips by Ashiakie Momo, Ghana based makeup artist.
